DU30

Designed in 1953, the DU30 chair is Gastone Rinaldi's most famous design. A confident and continuous design that produces a perfectly consistent form. The challenge was that of designing an easy-to-produce chair at industrial level that combines beauty and comfort. Gastone Rinaldi hit the bull's eye. In 1954 the DU30 won the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award - the first year the prize was awarded - and also appeared on the cover of Stile e Industria magazine.
The seat and the backrest of the DU30 is a single piece, shaped in steel sheet. The padding is in moulded polyurethane foam. The four supports, in bent iron tubing with a black finish, are directly screwed into the single shell in pairs. The cutting and stitching on the internal part of the seat, designed to bring together the various components of the chair, bring to mind the works of Lucio Fontana, which were gaining notoriety in the art world at that time.
Poltrona Frau now proposes a faithful reproduction of the DU30 chair upholstered in leather. The range includes variants in Pelle Frau® Soul leather, Pelle Frau® Nest leather and Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System.
