Philippe Starck

Born in Paris in 1949. At the age of twenty he became the art director of Cardin. At the age of twenty-seven, after a period spent in the United States, he returned to Paris where he designed two nightclubs, Main Bleue and Bains Douches, as well as the Café Costes and the private apartment of President Mitterrand at the Elysée, becoming one of the most famous "new designers" on the international scene. He designed the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Overseas, he designed the Kansai Yamamoto showroom in Sapporo, the Manin restaurant and the Café Mystique in Tokyo, the Royalton and Century Paramount hotels in New York and the Delano Hotel in Miami.
